Typhur Dome 2 Review: The Best Air Fryer for Pizza (and Nearly Everything Else)
It’s especially good with pizza, whether you’re reheating or cooking from frozen.

No modern kitchen is complete without an air fryer, which can not only take the place of a slow, hot oven, but also do a better job heating foods like French fries, pizza, and even bacon.
Before you settle on a boring traditional one, however, consider the Typhur Dome 2 — a shiny, rounded, metallic stunner that looks like the air fryer they’d have on the starship Enterprise. (Actually, slap on a couple engines and it could almost be the Enterprise.)
Sexy sci-fi looks are one thing; does this cooker actually get the job done? And is it worth the premium you’ll pay? Let’s beam jump in.
Typhur Dome 2: Design and capacity
Typhur offers the Dome 2 in silver, pearl, and red, all of them incredibly striking. (Note that at this writing, they’re all priced differently at Amazon; the pearl model is on sale for $305.95, for example, a savings of almost $100.)
This cooker has a pretty large footprint — about 20 inches deep and 16 inches wide — so make sure you’ve got the necessary space on your counter. It’s also shorter than most at about 10 inches. Indeed, most air fryers stand taller and have smaller, deeper baskets. That’s fine for some foods, but often too limiting for others (looking at you, pizza). The Dome 2’s basket stands only two inches high, but it’s large enough to accommodate an entire 12-inch pizza (”which is most of the ones you’ll find in the frozen-foods section,” he said from experience).
In other words, this isn’t the air fryer you want for roasting a chicken or baking potatoes; it’s intended for “single layer” cooking: fries, pizza, cut-up veggies, chicken breasts, and so on.

But it’s great with that stuff, in part because there’s more room for everything to spread out (the last thing you want is an overcrowded basket) and in part because of a great innovation: The Dome 2 has heating elements on the top and bottom. (The previous model was top-only, as are most air fryers.) That means there’s less need to shake the basket or flip the food mid-cook.
The basket itself has a removable non-stick tray (which it calls the “grill plate”) that’s very easy to clean, and both items are dishwasher-safe.
The one design element that could use improvement is the control panel. It’s easy enough to use, with simple up/down arrows for setting the cook time and temperature, plus eight mode buttons for things like pizza, bacon, air fry, and toast.
But it’s almost too simplistic: If you want to access modes like bake, roast, or broil, you have to use Typhur’s companion app. Same goes for the fries and “frozen” presets. This isn’t a dealbreaker by any means — the app is a breeze to use — but for such a space age-looking appliance, it’s light on buttons.

Typhur Dome 2: What it’s like to use
True facts: We use our Dome 2 more often than we use our oven. It’s almost always faster. It doesn’t heat the entire kitchen. And it usually yields better results, especially with things like roasted veggies, frozen French fries, and frozen pizza.
Yeah, let’s talk pizza for a second. Although the heating process is a little unusual — the Dome preheats for eight minutes with the fan blazing, then goes completely silent for 14 minutes after you drop in the pizza — the results are perfect every time. And you can go with standard air-fry mode if you’re just reheating a few slices from the fridge; that finishes faster and still nets you a crisp, crunchy crust.
Meanwhile, just yesterday my wife spent the afternoon dehydrating apple slices (which turned out amazing). And because each session took about two hours, it was nice to get a notification on her phone when it was done.
Speaking of the app, it’s home to loads of recipes, all with Dome 2-specific cooking instructions. They’re not organized in any way, which is annoying, but at least there’s a search option.
As noted above, the machine is a breeze to clean; very often I’ll just rinse the basket and tray with hot water and dry both with a towel — presto, done.
Typhur Dome 2: Should you buy it?
With a list price of $400, the Typhur Dome 2 is definitely on the high side of the air-fryer market. If you’re not in a rush, however, consider waiting for the next sale (like around Black Friday): I’ve seen the price dip to $300 and occasionally even lower.
I’ve owned a number of air fryers over the years, and this one is by far my favorite. Yes, I do occasionally wish it had space to accommodate taller foods, but it’s still one of my most-used appliances. It’s easy to use, easy to clean, and great at what it does. Consequently, I think it’s worth the extra investment.
